About Maureen

Maureen Nelson is Senior Career Counselor at the Oakland Private Industry Council (OPIC) One Stop Career Center. Having spent 20 years in publishing as an editor, designer and webmaster, she brings particular expertise to her work with clients from creative and technology fields. She is also one of a handful of national experts on transgender career issues. As a Certified Professional Resume Writer, she teaches job seekers and fellow career professionals how to produce sparkling resumes that land interviews. Her own resume was published in the fifth edition ofThe Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Perfect Resume.

She has spoken at universities, conferences and organizational events and has had numerous articles published by Robert Half and the National Career Development Association. A trainer and instructional designer for over 10 years, she leads a career group for the American Society for Training and Development.
Maureen has an M.A. from John F. Kennedy University, where she was named Outstanding Student of the School of Management. As a trainer in the Global Career Development Facilitator program, she teaches workforce development professionals the key skills needed to help the public in job search. In her spare time, she volunteers with the California Reentry Program, writing resumes for inmates paroling from San Quentin State Prison.
